Flying Horse foundation’s international division
The Flying Horse Foundation’s International Division began in 2022, offering free, equine assisted learning to orphans, sex trafficking victims and survivors, and children living in extreme poverty in Costa Rica. While the natural beauty of Costa Rica’s rainforests, beaches, and hot springs is renowned, many children face significant challenges.
Through a partnership with the beautiful Hacienda AltaGracia Resort, its equestrian center and horses, we are able to serve the local children. Collaborating with the orphanages and a local sex trafficking NGO, the program provides enriched experiences far beyond what is available in their usual environments. This initiative showcases the commitment of both the Resort and Flying Horse Foundation to support the community by giving back to those most in need.
serving seniors
The Flying Horse Foundation program in Costa Rica is led by Dr. Colleen Spurlock, a dual U.S. / Costa Rican citizen fluent in English and Spanish whose expertise with horses is unparalleled. Along with her husband, Raynor, together they provide therapeutically beneficial equine assisted learning activities designed to help children build trust and communication. In 2023, Colleen and Raynor expanded the scope of Flying Horse services to also provide weekly opportunities for local Costa Rican underprivileged seniors to interact with and learn more about the horses at the property.
The vision of the Flying Horse Foundation
is achieved in two primary ways:
Assists at-risk and underserved children through Equine-Assisted Learning. This experience helps the children build a connection and learn to trust, which translates into life lessons they can build upon for their future.
Our Senior Program serves residents who would enjoy getting out of their environment to experience the open skies, fresh air and serenity.
